Questions people ask before they call.
If yours isn't here, send it through the request form or just phone the shop. Nobody's going to make you sit through a sales pitch.
Booking & the shop
Hours, appointments, waiting and drop-off.
For anything diagnostic, or for a safety inspection, yes โ book ahead so we can set aside proper time rather than squeezing it between jobs. For a quick exhaust look or a "what's that noise" check, phone the same morning and we can usually work you in. Malcolm Rd is easy to pop into.
Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Closed Saturday and Sunday. If weekdays are hard for you, the early-bird key drop lets you leave the vehicle before we open and pick it up after work.
For oil changes, tire swaps and most exhaust section repairs, absolutely โ there's seating, coffee and Wi-Fi. For diagnostics or bigger jobs it's better to drop off, since a proper diagnosis can't be rushed and we'd rather do it right than do it fast with you watching the clock.
Within 30 minutes, with a quote. That's our stated promise, not a hopeful average. Requests that arrive after 5:30 PM, on a weekend or on a holiday are answered first thing the next business morning. If you need us this second, calling 519-824-4413 or messaging us on WhatsApp is always fastest.
We don't run our own tow truck or loaner fleet, but we work with local operators and can arrange a tow for you โ just select "Need a tow arranged" on the request form. For rides, we're a short trip from most of Guelph and happy to help you sort out transit or a rideshare while you wait.
Exhaust & mufflers
Our specialty, and the source of most of our savings for customers.
Almost always, and it's the single biggest reason people end up here. Dealers and chains typically quote a complete assembly because that's the only part number they stock. We bend and weld pipe on site, so if 400 mm of your system is rotten, that's the 400 mm you pay for. Customers routinely walk in with a four-figure quote and leave having spent a few hundred.
Potentially, yes โ and it's worth getting looked at quickly. A hole or crack ahead of the cabin can let exhaust gases, including carbon monoxide, get drawn inside. It will also fail a safety inspection. Drive with a window cracked and get it in soon. Most of these are a same-day fix.
That's the fun part of the job. Tone comes from muffler design, resonator choice, pipe diameter and length โ not just volume. Tell us what you're after (deeper, quieter, a bit of note under acceleration but calm on the highway) and we'll build toward it. We'll also tell you honestly when a request is going to end up droning at 110 km/h.
Aluminized is the value option and does well in most applications โ expect solid service life on a daily driver. Stainless costs more up front and resists Ontario road salt far better, which matters if you're keeping the vehicle long term or it's something you care about. We'll quote both and let you choose.
Yes โ classics, modified vehicles, engine swaps and anything where an off-the-shelf system doesn't exist. Bring the vehicle in so we can see the packaging constraints, and bring your reference sound clips if you have a tone in mind.
Pricing, quotes & warranty
The money questions, answered plainly.
Yes. You approve a written estimate before any work begins. If we open something up and find an additional problem, we stop and call you โ you decide whether to proceed. You will never collect your vehicle and be handed a number you haven't already seen and agreed to.
Yes, and here's why: reading a code takes thirty seconds, but finding the actual fault takes proper testing, equipment and experience. Shops that offer "free diagnostics" recover that cost by selling you parts. Our diagnostic fee covers up to an hour of real testing and is credited toward the repair if you go ahead with us.
24 months or 40,000 kilometres on parts and labour for qualifying repairs, in writing on your invoice. If something we installed fails inside that window, bring it back โ no diagnostic fee, no argument. Wear items and customer-supplied parts are handled differently; we'll tell you clearly at quoting time which category your job falls into.
Sometimes, and we'll talk it through honestly. The catch is that we can't warranty a part we didn't supply, and if it fails you pay the labour twice. On common items where you've found a genuine deal it can make sense; on anything critical or hard to access, it usually doesn't.
Debit, all major credit cards, e-transfer and cash. Fleet and small-business accounts can be set up on terms โ ask at the counter or mention it on your service request.
Gladly, and it's a common request. Bring the written quote in, or attach a photo of it to your service request. We'll tell you straight whether the work is necessary, whether the pricing is reasonable and what we'd charge. Sometimes the answer is "that's a fair quote, go ahead" โ and we'll say so.
Your vehicle
Warranty, inspections and what we'll work on.
No. A manufacturer can't void your new-vehicle warranty simply because a licensed independent shop performed the scheduled maintenance. What matters is that the correct parts and fluids were used and the work is documented. We record part numbers, dates and mileage on every invoice specifically so your service history holds up if it's ever questioned.
Yes โ we're a licensed inspection station and can issue Safety Standards Certificates for private sales, out-of-province imports and re-registrations. You get a full written report either way. If it fails, we'll quote the repairs, and you're under absolutely no obligation to have us do them.
Domestic, Japanese and European, plus hybrids and light-duty diesel. Daily commuters, work trucks, farm vehicles and weekend projects all come through the bay. For a handful of highly specialised European systems we'll tell you honestly if you're better off at a specialist โ we'd rather send you to the right place than learn on your money.
Yes, and it's one of the best hundred-odd dollars you'll ever spend. We check structure, rust, brakes, suspension, leaks, tires and scan for stored fault codes, then give you a written report you can negotiate with or walk away on. Book it before you hand over any money.
Not for long. A steady light often means an emissions-related fault that's costing you fuel and may quietly damage an expensive component like a catalytic converter. A flashing light is different โ that means active misfire and you should stop driving and call us. Either way it will fail a safety inspection, so it's better dealt with than deferred.
Follow your owner's manual first โ modern synthetics on a newer engine often go 8,000 to 12,000 km. But Guelph winters, short trips and stop-and-go driving are all "severe service" conditions, which shortens the interval. Tell us how you actually drive and we'll give you a real number rather than a sticker with an arbitrary date on it.
